Gastroendoscopic Study on the Various Conditions in Pediatric Age Groups


Abstract
The gastrofiberscopy is now considered to be one of the indispensable diagnostic method of various gastrointestinal diseases in adults as well as in infants and children.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and diagnostic capabilities of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy in infants and children.
We were investigated the 128 cases who were visited to Korea University Hospital during from Mar. 1980 to Sept. 1983.
The following results were obtained:
1) The GIF-P endoscopy was easily available procedure for children even younger infants.
2) 66(51.6%) out of 128 cases had no pathologic findings by endoscopic examination. But 44(55.7%) out of 79 cases in male patients and 18(36.7%) out of 44 cases in female patients were positive findings.
3) Among 62 cases of positive findings: 15 cases (11. 7%) were diagnosed as duodenal ulcer, 12 cases (9.4%) gastritis, and 10 cases (7.8%) gastric ulcer respectively.
4) The patients who were swallowed coin were 4 cases and coin was removed by endoscopically.
5) There were no specific relationship between chief complaints and positive findings and onset and positive findings.
